St. Thomas, USVI

For Christmas, 2000 our family went down to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.
Quite a climate shift from Russia where I had been the previous week.
It is quite a beautiful place and it could not have been more perfect.

My sister, Mary, and I entertained ourselves on some waverunners. We took them throughout the harbor of Charlotte Amalie. Riding up next to the cruise ships right next to the cruise ships, and around and island. There were ship wrecks and the buildings from when the island was fortified to protect the inhabitants.

Our resort was the Marriott Frenchman's Reef and can be seen in the above photo at the very tip of the peninsula on the middle right hand side.


From the hotel we could take a boat or "water taxi" into town. These are some shots of Charlotte Amalie

We also took a boat over to
St. John for a day.   The last
available rental car on the
island was this Jeep.   There
was a reason for this! It really
could not handle all of the hills
and was in bad shape.

The Jeep was, however, able to get us around the island and we saw some amazing
views like the one below. But in attempting to get to the top of some of these hills
the Jeep started overheat and stall quite a few times. That is the British Virgin
islands off in the distance.

It was quite a relief to drop this
thing off at the agency. By the
time we made it back to town
the car would not even idle
and would stall at every stop.
